NECKLACES

Here are a variety of fun, dressy, and chic funky necklaces.  The beads are unique and were hand-selected from Modern Tibet and other companies at the Tucson shows.  All jewelry here are made from beads and components that are not typically found in your local bead store.   Many of the metal components are hand-wrought and/or hand-wrapped.  All are one of a kind designs.  Sterling silver, 14KYG-filled, copper, bronze, and brass wire and chain are used.  Lengths vary, but all can be modified to be longer or shorter.

Since stone beads can be heavy, light weight beads of bone, resin, or wood are often integrated into some designs.  The use of bone and horn may sound odd, but in other nations they recycle everything, including bone and horn from animals which die a natural death (gnus and wildebeast most common, as well as cow).

This necklace is my first finished piece applying both fold-forming and riveting.  Fold-forming is the process whereby a straight piece of metal is folded, hammered along the folded edge, heated to soften, and repeat the hammering and the heating to get the metal to curve.  This is not a simple 1-2-3 process.  It took many attempts to get a straight piece of copper to curve up like a horse-shoe.  Into this frame, I have inserted a beautiful piece of dyed agate and closed the frame with another slightly curved piece of copper.  The chain is copper, accented with black onyx and aventurine.  The stone had a natural small hole, so I inserted a SS and gold disk.  Like a glint in the "Cat's Eye".

In this second necklace, the stone in the pendant is ocean wave jasper, of various blues and some maize yellows.  I cut out the copper mounting, added brass rivets to the left side for accents and folded the tabs to keep the piece tightly in place.  For this piece, I actually made something called "dino bones", out of heavy 12g  round wire, using them as connectors between the stone beads.   Those are the deep copper connectors that look like they have paddles on both ends.  Those take a lot of hammering to make.

All metal pieces have been waxed or lacquered to inhibit tarnish.

DRUSY BEADED NECKLACE
MultiDrusyNeck.jpg
Price: $49.50

This is a colorful necklace.  It is made of agate drusy which has been electroplated with color.  Drusy is a stone that has tiny crystals growing in crevices (as these beads have) or on the surface.  Beads are separated by black ties and are strung on heavy-duty metal bead stringing chain.  It has a gold-color lobster claw clasp with a 2 inch extension chain.

Below is a delightful combination of colors in this hammered, wire-worked necklace.  The green stones are seraphinite, which show chatoyancy of white and green feather-like flashes in the light.  It only comes from Russia and is named after the biblical seraphim angels  The large round black bead is onyx.  The little dangle is made of moss agate and black horn.  All the wire-work is done in bronze wire ... the stone frame and embellishments along with the circular connectors, connecting a complementary gunmetal chain with a hand-wrought bronze S-clasp.

What a delightful combination of colors in the necklace below.  Blacks of different sheens, copper, and sterling silver.  I wove a snuggy around a piece of spider agate using copper wire, working from a spiraled-accented frame, with sterling silver bead accents.  Much of the rest of the necklace is hand-wrought as well, forming copper connectors with black onyx and dark, shiny hemalite, and sterling silver, which are connected by hand-wrought copper figure-8 links.  It is finished off with copper/gunmetal chain and a  sterling silver S-hook.

This is a really fun and arty necklace.  It is made of black and green-gold colored steel retaining rings.  These are actually automotive parts.  Of course, these rings are new.  They are strung on heavy-duty metal bead stringing chain and has a lobster claw clasp with a 2 inch extension chain.  The one pictured below is made of different style all black rings.
